Quick Start

In order to begin as quickly as possible with the CaloryGuard, here is a brief introduction with the main functions.

After the installation of CaloryGuard via the App Store of your iPhones or iPod Touch your startup screen contains an icon of the CaloryGuard through which the program can be started. Per finger pressure on the “CaloryGuard” symbol the program will be launched.

1. Step: Personal Settings

After the first start of CaloryGuard you can enter your personal settings by pressing on the “Settings” button.

In the settings you can adjust your personal profile. Calory Guard calculates your own individual needs depending on that profile. Here you should enter your weight, your size, your age and your sex.

The “activity factor” reflects your average daily routine. Do you sit the whole day at work and at home or you move on the day, for example, because you are a waiter? Please set this value truthfully because it influences your amount of daily calories.

The last personal preference “Change Daily Intake” by default displays your daily need for calories. If you want to change this value, you can change it here to a different value.

Note: Please only change the value of the daily intake if you are exactly sure what you are doing. If you enter too low or too high values it cannot be ensured any longer that the CaloryGuard gives correct tips in the form of rest calories! The proposed calory value is based on sophisticated scientific techniques and is also optimizted through our own experience. For example, it helps lowering the weight slowly and healthy if one is overweight to avoid a yo-yo effect. For people with an optimum weight the weight should remain the same and for underweight people the value even points out to slowly and healthy reach the optimal weight.

2. Step: Monitor eating, drinking and sports activities

After you now have setup the CaloryGuard for you personally, you can now start with recording all meals and sporting activities. Switch to the “Overview” screen.

On the overview page CaloryGuard shows you your current status. You can see your the actually consumed calories, the remaining calories, and your current weight. The fourth line with the smilies shows the relationship between “green” and “red” meals.

CaloryGuard doesn’t only want to help you making counting calories easier, but it also wants to indicate which food you may eat without having a guilty conscience and which food you should only take in a limited amount. That does not mean that you must not eat or drink “red” marked meals – very calory rich or unhealthy meals. These meals only should be proportional. For those who believe it is only possible to slim down without chocolate, is wrong. It is also possible with chocolate…

An example: Today we had a rump steak with broccoli and mashed potatoes with a glass of Coke for lunch. As a little dessert we had a small chocolate bar. Another assumption is that you made gymnastics for one hour this morning. To enter this information, you have type on the + button in the upper right of the overview page.

A new dialog pops up, where you can enter the amount of your meal in grams or millilitres (or ounces), as well as a search term for the meal that you are looking for. By pressing the “plus” button you get a new dialog with all meals that match your search term. In this example, please enter “steak” as search term and hit “+”. In the next window, you can now select the rump steak.

For adding sports activities you have to switch to the “sport / activity” tab on the “Add” dialogue. There you haveo to enter the time of the exercise in minutes, as well as a search term for the sport. In the search dialog, you can now select the sport.

After entering all desired meals and activities you can see the summary table which shows how many calories for the day still remain.

Tips and Tricks

  • Enter the meals and activities 2-3 times per day. Then you don’t forget the details and quantities.
  • Do at least 2 times per week a sports activity for about 1-2 hours. As a result you can also treat something delicious because you brush up your personal calory account through the sports.
  • Cradle youself 1x per week and update the new weight in the weight settings (page “weight”). The weight in the personal settings panel should remain the same for the first time. You should only make changes to that value if your weight has changed significantly (+ / – 5 kg / 10 pounds).
  • Attempt to hold the relationship between “red” and “green” meals to “green” or at least “yellow”. If the ratio shows a red smiley, it will be difficult to successfully complete the current day.

Additional features

Weight Control

In addition to monitoring the calories you can also monitor your weight with the CaloryGuard. It allows you to the change your weight per day on the “weight” page. This weight is then displayed on the summary page. You needn’t weight yourself every day (slight fluctuations in the weight per day are perfectly normal), but it is enough to do that once a week. With the statistics function, you can track the changes of your weight. Days where you have not entered a weight are filled with the previous day’s values.

With the statistics feature of the CaloryGuard you are able to track the course of your calory consumption and weight. Here you have the possibility to display the values of one week, a month or half a year. Like the photo application of your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can zoom in and out the statistics with your fingers.

Add new meal / new activity

Although CaloryGuard provides a large database of food and beverages, of course it cannot cover every meal of the world. So if you miss a meal or activity, you can add it to the database via CaloryGuard.

Go to the “Overview” page and click on the “plus” button. Enter a quantity and again click on “+”. The search results list dialog has a “New” button which provides a new page to add new food or an activity

Here you can set a name, the number of calories per 100 grams / per 100 ml, and also a fat value (optional). Furthermore, you should choose a category, and determine whether it is food or a drink. This is important for the calculation of the fluid intake.
