Settings
Before you monitor your calories and weight on your first start you first should set a few settings, so that the CaloryGuard 2 can support you the best losing weight or staying fit. After the first start of the CaloryGuard 2 you get a message that reminds you of setting your personal preferences. The settings are now divided into 4 sub-categories that you reach via the tool bar..
Personal Settings (Personal)

In the personal settings one should set the current weight and size as accurate as possible. Furthermore it is important to set the current age, gender and the so-called "Activity factor". The activity factor has for different options: "Only Seated", "Mostly Seated" "Mostly Moving" and "Physically Exhausting" This factor relates to your work or activities that you periodically do throughout the day.
The last setting "Change Daily Intake" normally doesn’t need to be changed, because the CaloryGuard already calculates the optimal daily intake basing on your personal characteristics.
Note: Please only change the value of the daily intake if you are exactly sure what you are doing. If you enter too low or too high values it cannot be ensured any longer that the CaloryGuard gives correct tips in the form of rest calories! The proposed calory value is based on sophisticated scientific techniques and is also optimizted through our own experience. For example, it helps lowering the weight slowly and healthy if one is overweight to avoid a yo-yo effect. For people with an optimum weight the weight should remain the same and for underweight people the value even points out to slowly and healthy reach the optimal weight.
Note: Do not forget to press the "Done" or "Save" button after you’ve changed the settings.
Online Settings (Online)

The CaloryGuard 2 offers now the unique opportunity to dynamically extend the food database of CaloryGuard2 by entries that were entered by other users. In the online settings you can adjust how often the program should check for an update. By default, it checks every 7 days for an update. If you set it to 0 days, it will no longer automatically check for updates.
Furthermore, you can decide whether you want to send your added food and activity entries to the online database or not. By default it is turned on, so that other CaloryGuard 2 users can also get them.
With the button "Update database now" you can manually check for online database updates.
Statistics

In the statistics settings you can change the percentage of calories per meal. These percentages are used to depict the daily statistics. The sum of the fractions must always be 100% and will automatically be adjusted when you change a setting.
Miscellaneous (Misc.)

- "Metric": Switch between metric units (gramm and liter) or U.S. units (ounce, pound, etc.).
- "Show weight": Turn this off if you don’t want to show your weight on the start page.
- "Deduction of sports calories": Defines how much of the actual sports calories is taken into account for the calculation of the daily calories. By default only 40% are taken into account.
- "Transfer calories": Here you can specify whether the remaining calories of the dayshould pass to the next day. So you can "collect calories" to consume them on another day, for example, if you’ll await a birthday with cake and other calorie-rich foods. By default, this feature is turned off, because it only makes sense if the CaloryGuard is used every day.
- "Delete all settings and entries": If you want to reset CaloryGuard 2 to its the initial state and want to remove all settings you made, you can perform this using this button.
Add meal or activity to the current day
The main task of CaloryGuard 2 is monitoring eaten meals and operated sports. On the summary page you get an overview of the current consumed calories and remaining calories plus some other information. The fourth row with the smilies shows the ratio of "green" and "red" meals.
CaloryGuard doesn’t only want to help you making counting calories easier, but it also wants to indicate which food you may eat without having a guilty conscience and which food you should only take in a limited amount. That does not mean that you must not eat or drink "red" marked meals – very calory rich or unhealthy meals. These meals only should be proportional. For those who believe it is only possible to slim down without chocolate, is wrong. It is also possible with chocolate…

Below the daily consumption overview, all meals and activities of the current day are listed. All entries contain the following information:
- Name of the meal or activity
- Calories of the meal / acitivity (for the entered amount or minutes)
- Quantity
- Smiley (green, yellow, red), showing how healthy the food is or how high the amount of calories and/or fat is
- Symbol of the meal, to which the food has been received
With the arrow keys you can go to previous or future days. By pressing the date you change back to the present day.
To add a new meal to the current day, press on "Add". It appears the "Select" dialog, where you have a choise of all available foods and drinks or a activities. You can either scroll through the list or filter the list through the search field. You can filter on names as well as categories (e.g. vegetables).

After clicking on the food or the activity you get to a dialog where you can select the quantity of the food or the duration of the activity.

Here you can either select the quantity or the number of calories using the two sliders as well as the meal.
Add new food or activities
Although the food and activitiy database is already very extensive, it can never include all existing food and sport typs. Therefore there is the possibility to add your own meals and activities. To do so go to the search dialog, select the appropriate category (meals or activities) and then click on the "New" button.

In the following dialog you can enter a name for the food or activity, as well as make further submissions. For meals you can select a category, and determine whether it is a drink or not. By pressing the "Save" button, you can add it to the list. Also the entry will be sent to the online database and is then available to other CaloryGuard 2 users (unless it has been disabled in the settings).

With the statistics function at any time you have in view of how your eating habits and weight change. The daily statistics shows how the various dishes are distributed on the meals and how many calories they consumed. In the weekly, monthly and half-yearly statistics, the calories and weight change is displayed.
With the arrow keys you can change the range of the statistics by one day, week, month or half year. With a click on the date you can switch back to the current day.

Tips and tricks
- Enter the meals and activities 2-3 times per day. Then you don’t forget the details and quantities.
- Do at least 2 times per week a sports activity for about 1-2 hours. As a result you can also treat something delicious because you brush up your personal calory account through the sports.
- Cradle youself 1x per week and update the new weight in the weight settings (page "weight"). The weight in the personal settings panel should remain the same for the first time. You should only make changes to that value if your weight has changed significantly (+ / – 5 kg / 10 pounds).
- Attempt to hold the relationship between "red" and "green" meals to "green" or at least "yellow". If the ratio shows a red smiley, it will be difficult to successfully complete the current day.
